Inaugurada em 1966 e Monumento Nacional desde 2011, a Piscina das Marés foi alvo de uma grande intervenção em virtude da deterioração de vários elementos, como a estrutura do betão armado, o tanque principal da piscina e o sistema de filtração de água salgada.
O arquiteto matosinhense, galardoado com o Prémio Pritzker, assinou o projeto de reabilitação daquele equipamento. Álvaro Siza acompanhou, de resto, a execução dos trabalhos e todas as suas especificidades.
O investimento desta reabilitação, no valor de 1,3 milhões de euros, envolveu a instalação mecânica de bombas de captação e circulação, sistema de filtragem e tratamento da água, tubagens e infraestruturas elétricas. Todos os edifícios foram reabilitados, assim como os tanques, com tratamento das superfícies de betão e madeiras. Foram ainda construídos novos balneários e foi aumentada a área de permanência ao ar livre.
A empreitada constituiu uma das primeiras experiências de reabilitação de edifícios em betão armado. Aliás, a Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto recebeu uma bolsa da Getty Foundation para estudar todo o processo de gestão e conservação da Piscina das Marés.
Inaugurated in 1966 and a National Monument since 2011, the Piscina das Marés was the target of a major intervention due to the deterioration of several elements, such as the reinforced concrete structure, the main pool tank and the salt water filtration system.
The architect from Matosinhos, awarded the Pritzker Prize, signed the project to rehabilitate that equipment. Álvaro Siza monitored, moreover, the execution of the works and all its specificities.
The investment in this rehabilitation, in the amount of 1.3 million euros, involved the mechanical installation of collection and circulation pumps, a filtering and water treatment system, pipes and electrical infrastructure. All buildings were rehabilitated, as well as the tanks, with the treatment of concrete and wood surfaces. New changing rooms were also built and the outdoor area was increased.
The contract was one of the first experiences in the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete buildings.
In fact, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto received a grant from the Getty Foundation to study the entire process of management and conservation of Piscina das Marés.
